From Burned Out to Rebuilt: How I Became the First Student of The RESET Framework™
Hey, I'm James “Skywalker” Franklin.
Before I ever helped high-performing professionals break free from burnout and redesign a life they didn't need to escape from… I was the cautionary tale.
I had a good salary. The “dream” title. The booked-out calendar. From the outside, I was thriving. Inside? I was unravelling.

“I worked this hard… for this?”
— The question that changed everything
Let me paint a picture: It's 8:47 PM. I'm standing in my kitchen, microwaving a dinner I don't remember ordering, while my long-term girlfriend at the time eats alone on the patio — for the third night that week.
My phone's buzzing with Slack messages. My chest is tight, and I know it's going to be another night sleeping in the spare room, as I'll be going through emails and checking a few things before I go to bed, and I don't want to wake her up.
All I can think is:
“I worked this hard… for this?”
I had become a machine in a suit — productive, polished, and completely disconnected from anything that made life feel worth living.
How I Rebuilt — Phase by Phase
This isn't a methodology I read in a textbook. It's the exact path I walked to go from unravelling to whole.
Rewire — Changing How I Was Wired
My wake-up call wasn't dramatic — it was humiliating. I completely blanked out in a client pitch I'd rehearsed a dozen times. I couldn't find my notes. Couldn't find the words. Couldn't find myself.
That night, I looked in the mirror and asked the question I'd been avoiding: “What if the version of success I'm chasing is killing me?”
And I saw it: my self-image was hijacked. I believed my worth lived in my output.
Something simply had to give, but it was too late. My girlfriend and I drifted apart, mentally and physically. It wasn't that she wasn't my best friend. It wasn't because I didn't love her. I was just too tired to appreciate her and the life we had.
It took me this breakup to realize that I had to rebuild from the inside out.
I rebuilt how I saw myself; not as a performer, but as a human. An uncle. A brother. A son. A soul with value before the to-do list. It was brutal, but it was also liberating.
Embodying My Values Through My Calendar
The next frontier was my calendar — the sacred altar of my identity.
I stared at it and thought: “This isn't a schedule. It's a confession of what I've been prioritising. Of what I've been avoiding.”
So I deleted everything. Then rebuilt it from values first:
- Family dinners, blocked.
- Myles's weekly football games (my nephew)
- Deep work, protected.
- Margin, sacred.
Every time I honoured that calendar, I reclaimed a piece of my peace.
Simplifying the Noise
Even with space in my calendar, my mind was a war zone. Notifications. Deadlines. The constant hum of “not enough.”
So I unplugged. I went on a 48-hour Noise Fast — no news, no socials, no inbox. I'll be honest, at first, the ‘digital silence’ was almost deafening.
But eventually, when the silence settled… I found true clarity. Not just about what I wanted, but just as, if not more importantly, what I didn't want anymore:
- The need to prove.
- The addiction to urgency.
- The guilt of resting.
Executing What Matters
With clarity came purpose. But I didn't start by chasing big wins. I started small: One aligned action per day. That's it.
One honest conversation. One 90-minute block for a passion project. One boundary enforced without apology.
That simplicity gave birth to traction, and eventually… transformation. I built the first version of this coaching practice in that quiet space. Not from hustle. From wholeness.
Trusting the Rebuild
Even after all that work, my biggest challenge was trusting it would last.
I still occasionally second-guessed the stillness. I missed the dopamine of chaos. I feared falling behind.
But I kept showing up for the life I was creating, and every time I did… My nervous system recalibrated. My confidence compounded. My peace felt earned.
Then The RESET Framework Was Born
I didn't sketch The Freedom RESET Framework in a strategy meeting. I forged it in the furnace of burnout and loss, and emerged with a blueprint.
The Freedom RESET isn't theory. It's what saved me. And now, it's helped dozens of high performers rebuild a life they don't need to numb, escape, or postpone.
If you're where I was, quietly suffering behind success… Know this: You don't need to abandon your ambition. You just need to RESET the foundation beneath it.
Your freedom isn't found in quitting your job or selling it all. It's found in remembering who you are beneath the noise.
And that journey starts here.
The Philosophy Behind The Reset
Three principles that guide everything I teach and do.
Systems Over Hustle
Hustle culture almost destroyed me. I build systems because I refuse to trade my health for revenue ever again.
Real Over Polished
I share what actually happened — the breakup, the blank-out, the breakdown. The best transformations start with honest conversations.
Freedom Is Non-Negotiable
I missed too many dinners, too many of my nephew's football games, too many moments. Never again. And I'll help you say the same.
